Born and raised in a culturally rich and artistically nurturing environment, André Garabedian has always been driven by a deep passion for creativity and design. From an early age, André was surrounded by artistic inspiration — from the gentle brushstrokes of his grandfather’s landscape paintings to the intricate preparation of Armenian family meals that were as much a visual experience as a culinary one. These early impressions sparked a lifelong fascination with art, form, and the craft of making something meaningful from nothing.
Growing up just outside New York City, André was immersed in the city’s dynamic energy and visual language, which helped shape his creative perspective. One of his earliest and most cherished memories is watching his grandfather, Vacil, paint — an experience that unknowingly became his first lesson in color theory, perspective, and spatial composition. Those quiet moments, filled with questions about how to draw a car, a house, or a boat, were formative — planting the seeds of an artistic journey that would grow for decades to come.
André’s Armenian heritage also played a unique and vital role in his creative development. He often credits the care, detail, and beauty found in traditional Armenian cooking — prepared by his mother and grandparents — as a parallel to the artistic process: intentional, expressive, and deeply personal.
Encouraged by supportive teachers throughout middle and high school, André embraced the idea that art could be more than a hobby and passion — it could be a profession. That belief led him to the prestigious Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, where he honed his skills and graduated in 1993 with a degree in graphic design. After gaining valuable experience working in the design industry, André began building his own client base. By 2001, his freelance projects had grown into a full-fledged business, and Filament Designs was officially born. Since then, André has led the studio with the same sense of curiosity, care, and craft that shaped his early years — delivering exceptional design solutions that not only meet but exceed client expectations.
